Alexander Koutny Makes History with Minx Nails
Making African Fashion History
South African-born and New York-based fashion designer Alexander Koutny made style history as he presented his 2012 collection at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg. His all-black collection was complemented by a gunmetal hue of Minx Nails.
“This show is a fashion first for Africa as Minx Nails, the Hollywood nail trend spreading like wildfire across the globe, reaches the far end of the global village.” said Eleni Fourie, Minx distributor, S. A.
Taking the Look Overseas
Africa Fashion Week contacted Minx after Alexander had said that Minx “is the hottest thing in New York City” and that he wanted it for his show in Africa. Minx South Africa media liaison Ryno Mulder met with Alexander and his design team the day before the show to discuss the nail fashion options.
Alexander looked at a variety of Minx designs that matched his style, and as a nail technician did an impromptu Minx treatment on his nails, Alexander laughed and said ‘This is the most fun I’ve had in a manic week!’”
Alexander was very aware of the Minx designs featured by other designers such as Gareth Pugh and Vivienne Westwood and he wanted a unique design that had not yet been seen on any runway. South African nail technician Michéll Sierra worked with Eleni (the Minx distributer for South Africa) and her team to produce his look with Minx’s unique layering technique.
“We had our Minx elves working around the clock for 48 hours to prepare these nails for the 16 female models that walked in the show,” said Eleni.
