A Fab List of 5 Free Nail Polish Brands

By Inspirationail

5-Free VarnishesOver the past few weeks we’ve been featuring some of our favourite 3 free & 4 free brands (not to mention the cruelty free ones). Today we are going one better, we are featuring even safer varnishes that are 5 free.

The Growing List

It’s no secret that nail varnish is a toxic offender when it comes to ingredients. While they may not be so bad in small doses, we think there is no reason to expose yourself to danger in the name of beauty. Today’s brands are not only free of the Big 3 chemicals, Formaldehyde, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) and Toluene, they are also free of Formaldehyde Resin and Camphor.

Some of the larger cosmetic companies also make formulas without these chemicals. However many of them are known to test on animals so we are sticking to the good guys.

5 Free Varnishes

Yes, It Gets Even Better

We applaud these brands for their dedication to bringing you brilliant nails in a healthier way. Believe it or not, we have another list of brands who take it a step further with water based formulas. As always, be sure to let us know about anyone we are missing in the comments below.

Cruelty Free | 3 Free | 4 Free | Water Based | Vegan

Hi, thank you for the list! But I have seen just a moment ago, at the Ulta website, that the nail polishes of Essence do contain camphor :( They are 4-Free, not 5-Free.

hope you’ll include us, Knocked Up Nails, on that list. Our maternity-safe formula is also 5 free! :)

Now there are 8 free brands!

  7. Hope you also include us – we are a swiss based cosmetics brand called exurbe cosmetics. We are not only dedicated to the 5-free approach. We also support a strong ethical business approach. Therefore we only source from local european suppliers – our glass and plastic components are entirely made from local producers. All our suppliers are producing according to the highest standards in regard to reducing negative environmental impacts (ISO-Standards and other Eco-Friendly certificates). We think that this is something that has been largely neglected by most international cosmetics companies. Just think of the glass and plastic components (cap, brush, bottle) that are used for nailpolish bottles. In many cases these parts are sourced from china and india, being produced by companies that do not even fulfill the slightest standards in regard to CO2 emissions, raw materials and also work conditions for their employees (child labor, safety standards, fair wages). Therefore we are very proud to consider ourselves a think global – act local company. Of course we are also strong supporters of the cruelty free approach.
