A Fab List of 3 Free Nail Polish Brands

By Inspirationail

3-Free VarnishesWhen it comes to cosmetics, conventional nail varnish probably contains some of the worst ingredients. Luckily there are brands who have made it their business to bring us beautiful nails, without the toxic chemicals.

Supporting The Responsible Brands

Although some of the large brands also make 3-free formulas, this list is mainly smaller brands (we like to support the little guys). Our list is also limited to those brands which are only free of formaldehyde, Dibutyl Phthalate (DBP) and Toluene (you can learn a little about them here). We have more lists on the way that will feature brands whose products are even safer & created using fewer nasty chemicals (also called 4 free & 5 free).

Some of the older brands have changed their formula, so their older lines & may contain the big 3. Don’t take our word for it, always ask or read ingredients to be sure.

More Safe Brands to Come

We have more lists of great brands that are not only 3 free, but contain even fewer chemicals – so keep checking back. Be sure to also learn which varnish brands pledge to be cruelty-free and don’t test their products on animals.

What's yours?

  1. Lindsey says:

China Glaze still uses formaldehyde resin; is this considered safe? I still see it on the new collection as well as the new collections by OPI.

  2. Pirouette says:

    What about Mavala ? Aren’t they 3-free too ? i thought so…

  3. Melina says:

    I’m sure OPI is at least 3-free, too – e.g. https://www.facebook.com/OPIProducts/posts/433400520020440.

  4. Elizabeth says:

    Butter London’s polishes have Tosylamide/Epoxy Resin :o/

I’m doing a little research as I am allergic to Tosylamide Formaldehyde Resin (toluene sulphonamide formaldehyde resin) and am shocked about how many brands claim to be free of DBP, toluene, camphor, formaldehyde and formaldehyde resin, but do actually contain them.

Please do not take companies ‘free’ claims at face value. Find an ingredient list if you can.
